Sustainable wood: Timber that is certified by organizations like the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) ensures that it comes from responsibly managed forests. 3. Insulation made from natural materials: Materials like cellulose, wool, and cork are renewable and have low environmental impact compared to traditional insulation materials. 4. Low-impact concrete alternatives: Materials like hempcrete, which is made from hemp fibers and lime, have lower carbon footprints than traditional concrete. Passive houses are a specific type of energy-efficient house that meets rigorous standards for energy performance, comfort, and air quality. They achieve this through a combination of high levels of insulation, airtight construction, high-performance windows, and a mechanical ventilation system. Energy-efficient houses, on the other hand, can encompass a broader range of building practices and technologies that reduce energy consumption, such as efficient appliances, lighting, and heating/cooling systems. While passive houses are a subset of energy-efficient houses, not all energy-efficient houses meet the strict criteria for passive house certification. **
